There’s probably no better example of the above quote than in our growing cities. With the number of mobile devices exceeding the population, it’s not only logical to use them as a bridge to create better cities and improve communication, but it’s also a convenient and eco-friendly solution to eliminate paperwork, enact change and streamline processes.

In 2010 after recognizing a disconnect with most citizens and their local government, as well as the advancements in mobile technology and cloud computing we set out to design and develop the first “Whole City App“. One App that would be the hub that seamlessly connects citizens to city hall and the services offered. User-friendly enough that 8 to80 year olds could navigate it with no instruction and customizable enough that every City and organization could have a unique app that not only reflects their brand, but one that they can be proud of. Our mission was to fit city hall in citizens pockets.

Our initial design approach was “No more than three taps away.” All information or reporting of issues had to be accessed or completed in three taps or less. Access to city council members bio’s and contact information, directions to and descriptions of local parks, facilities and recreation activities, calendar, news and the ability to report issues that would automatically geo locate the user and based on the issue type route it instantly to the proper department or staff member.

Our clients from the beginning have been more like partners. We listen closely to the issues and obstacles they face on a regular basis and use our experience to develop time and cost saving tools.
Validation and feedback from our clients and their citizens fueled us to develop a content management system that would empower our clients to make real-time updates to their app, as well as send out Push Notifications to their users. Updates to content, images and even the look and feel of the app could now be made instantly.
We also upgraded the content management system to include a work management system not only to log new issues when reported, but to automate workflow and streamline process allowing staff to access and manage the issues every step of the way to resolution, time stamping every action and automatically updating citizens and staff members in real-time. The work management system gathers and stores valuable data visible on dashboards and heat maps providing a real-time snapshot of a city’s most important metrics and analytics empowering staff to make data driven decisions.
